How To Promote YouTube Videos With Google Ads

Since marketing has become increasingly pay-to-win, content creators always have the option to promote YouTube videos with Google Ads. For your ad creatives, you can repurpose a current video or develop something new for a specific campaign, or you can design a new advertisement with a clear call-to-action at the end to direct viewers to a website or another video.

This article will show you the right way of using Google Ads to achieve more views and subscribers without breaking the bank.

Before you promote YouTube videos with Google Ads

Create a good-looking banner

The banner will be the first thing that viewers see when visiting any channel. So catching their attention and explaining why they should subscribe to your channel would be the requirements that any banner has to meet.

Luckily, you don’t have to be a professional graphic designer to create an outstanding banner. Just make sure that it contains enough information like call-to-action, the link to your website, social media, or your schedule of video upload.

Have a vivid profile picture

Add a logo or simply a photo of yourself if it is your personal brand. The dimensions of a YouTube profile picture differ from those of other YouTube photos. Because the final look is circular, your design will be trimmed further when submitted to YouTube. The ideal size is 800 x 800 px.

Keep in mind that your YouTube channel icon appears in a variety of places (channel page, video comments, related channels, search results, and so on), so it’s critical to get the size right.

Add some videos

You should have uploaded some videos that are related to the topic and as engaging as possible. It is recommended to have 7-to-10-minute long videos, to achieve the YouTube algorithm’s length requirement.

And you should have at least 3 videos. Since a viewer comes into one of your videos, if he likes it, he will check out for another video, then another. So the more videos you have, the more beneficial it is for your channel.

Have great thumbnails

If you want to gain views and promote YouTube videos with Google Ads, thumbnails become one of the most important factors for the success of your YouTube channel. Even if you have made the best video in your niche but forgot to create a relevant thumbnail, the possibility of getting many views is quite small. So the thumbnails must be highly clickable and completely related to the topic.

Types of Google Ads

You need to understand the difference between the two common types of Google ad campaign:

  • Discovery ads: It promotes your videos on the YouTube search results page alongside related videos and on the YouTube mobile homepage. This ad consists of a thumbnail image from the video along with the headline and description. Your video is going to be marked with the yellow ad icon. This ad campaign is good only for gaining subscribers from one video.
  • Skippable in-stream ads: These are the ads that appear before a video and you pay for it only if your viewers watch at least 30 seconds. If they skip the ad, you don’t have to pay money. As a result, you gain more views not only on a specific video but also increase your audience retention.

Steps to promote YouTube videos with Google Ads

Account Build

Open up the Google Ads. You need to connect your YouTube account to your Google Ads account. Choose the Tools and Settings, click Setup and Linked account.

Create Campaign

Click on the New campaign button. There are a bunch of options which are designed for some specific aims. Choose the last tab Create a campaign without a goal’s guidance.

Then, you have to select the type of campaign, in which the Video is highly recommended.

After that, choose Custom video campaign in the box below because it allows both discovery ads and skippable in-stream ads, then hit Continue.

The next move to promote YouTube videos with Google Ads wil include some general settings.

First, you have to give your campaign a name. If you choose the Discovery ad, put (Discovery) at the end of the name.

In the Bid strategy, choose Maximum CPV which relates to Cost Per View.

Next, you come to the Budget and dates part. Write down a total campaign budget. For example, if you choose Daily and enter 2.50, it is the maximum your campaign will spend over the course of the day.

The longer the campaign will run, the more views you will get. So you can pick the starting and ending day to let the campaign run in 7 days, 2 weeks, or more with the same budget.

The next section is Locations. Select All countries and territories because we need to get as many views as possible.

In the Languages, select All languages. And in the Inventory type, choose the Standard inventory option.

Next is the Excluded types and labels. You can choose to have your video not appear on embedded video, live streaming videos or on content that you are not sure about.

Next, write down an Ad group name, Demographics, Audiences, Keywords, Topics, and Placements.

At the bottom of the page, you need to paste a link to the video. So, copy your video link and paste it in the below box.

You can choose the Video ad format, past the final URL, have Call-to-action, or change the ads name if your want.

Be smart to promote YouTube videos with Google Ads

The point of this as is not to find your target audience, it is about gaining views and subscriber retention on the videos. That means your video will get a lot of attention once you promote YouTube videos with Google Ads.
